A medical malpractice case is a case that is filed against a healthcare
provider, whether it be a doctor, a nurse, or a hospital. And it's going to
be a case that's arising out of negligence, meaning the doctor has breached
the standard of care. The doctor or the hospital or the nurse has done
something that a reasonably prudent healthcare provider would have done
differently, under the circumstances, that caused a severe injury to the
patient.
In a medical malpractice case, you're entitled to recover, if we're
successful, your medical bills, your lost wages, any pain, any suffering,
and any debilitation that you've suffered as a result of the tragic
circumstances.
Because medical malpractice is so complex and unique, you don't want to
hire a lawyer who handles all area of law. I limit my practice here to
cases involving medical issues. I do not write people's wills, in general.
I don't handle divorces or any other matters, because, frankly, medical
malpractice is so specialized and so complex, you want a lawyer who can
devote much of their time to mastering that subject.
One of the ways I've gone about doing that is through continuing legal
education. At times I have spoken regarding medical malpractice issues to
other lawyers to educate them, and I also believe that I'm a student for
life. So I'm also attending what we call CLE, continuing legal education,
to learn more about how I can better represent my clients.
